REBECCA HORTON

Rebecca has been practicing yoga for nearly 30 years and joined ECY as a volunteer advisory panel member for Diversity and Inclusion in 2021. Rebecca is currently undertaking her Yoga Teacher Training with a particular interest in helping to increase accessibility in the Yoga Community. Starting her practice in the Iyengar tradition, Rebecca, a lover of learning, went on to further study some of the other yogic traditions including Anusara, Hatha and Ashtanga. You can expect a joyful, subtle and deep practice with Rebecca as she strives to share her continued learning as part of the ECY teaching team.

With a childhood spent in Morocco, France, Switzerland, the UK and the US; a Native American & African American Mum, and a White British Dad, Rebecca grew up in a bilingual household. This diverse upbringing has given her insight into many cultures, ethnicities, religious traditions and languages, all inspiring her celebration of diversity.  She is keen to see the yoga community open its arms even wider to welcome all types of people.

She has quietly but enthusiastically advocated for better equity and accessibility in her voluntary and professional careers in the arts and STEM respectively, focusing specifically on causes she cares deeply about: education, the environment and building communities of belonging. Yoga is the foundation that helps to keep her energized and grounded as she continues to use her agency in bringing about more equity where she can. She is interested in exploring how the Yoga community can grow to be more diverse and inclusive, while continuing to respect its roots and origins.
