Edinburgh Community Yoga
• ECY are a not for profit social enterprise
• ECY is one of the leading yoga outreach organisation in the country. With 35 classes running a week, 19 of which are outreach projects, in one week alone we reach around 240 people spanning women’s groups, prisons, psychiatric hospitals, veterans and addiction centres.
• We also run a comprehensive workplace wellbeing program offering mind/body solutions to work related pressure in high stress environments such as the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. Our current clients include including NHS Scotland, NHS Lothian, Blackrock, Macroberts and Edinburgh University.
• Alongside our outreach work we also offer mainstream yoga classes and retreats and run training courses for yoga teachers interested in our outreach yoga teaching approach.
Our vision encompasses the yogic values of respect and compassion and the humanist ideal of unconditional positive regard. We believe in social equality and work towards an inclusive world where each individual has access to and is empowered by doing yoga.
Edinburgh community yoga is a not-for-profit organization. We take the therapeutic benefits of yoga to communities in Edinburgh. We work to cross the cultural, economic and health barriers that inhibit people from doing yoga by ensuring inclusivity and accessibility. We aim to provide a learning environment that is safe and supportive and to equip people with the skills to better deal with stress and improve health and mental well-being. We achieve this by offering a range of public and workplace classes, retreats, teacher training and outreach projects.
Edinburgh Community Yoga Festival – In its third year the festival brings together the yoga community in support of the wider Edinburgh community. Festival classes will run from 11-20 May with classes held in work places across the city as well as a programme of workshops at the Serenity Cafe which is run by and for people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Festival goers can also benefit from yoga workshops that will see some of Edinburgh’s favourite teachers paired up to share all aspects of yoga; from chanting, meditation, breath work, movement, yoga sleep and massage. As part of the festival, a number of Edinburgh based studios and teachers are also offering classes. www.edyogafest.co.uk
