THARANGA WICRAMASINGHE

ECY TEACHER

Thara was born and brought up in Sri Lanka, where meditation was part of the daily practice at school. She grew up practicing Loving-kindness (Maithri Bhavana) and Breath-focused (Anapana Sathi) Meditation and excelled in Sri Lankan Classical dancing. After migrating to Scotland in her early twenties, she learned Vipassana meditation and Hatha Yoga, which complemented well and supported her physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing during challenging times. Several years of dedicated practice led her to a deeper inquiry of the philosophy, science and therapeutic essence of yoga. While completing 500h YTT with Yoga Scotland, she further explored human psychology, trauma healing and complementary therapies like TRE, Somatic Experiencing, Autogenics and Qi Gong. She is fascinated about the impact of an embodied practice on inner healing. Completing the Fundamentals of Yoga Outreach teacher training with ECY in 2019 invoked her passion to make yoga accessible, supportive and complementary to the recovery, healing and wellbeing of others. She honours and nurtures the authentic roots of yoga and shares a holistic experience through her insight on Hatha Yoga, Meditation, Yoga Nidra and Ayurveda.

Thara lives in Edinburgh with her husband and 2 daughters and considers herself a lifelong student of Yoga.
